Dispersion-engineered structures for spatial control of electromagnetic fields

Giovanni Magno

Séminaires

This seminar presents a selection of research activities devoted to the spatial control of electromagnetic fields through dispersion engineering in structured media. Different physical platforms are considered, including mesoscopic photonic crystals, hybrid dielectric-plasmonic systems, and reconfigurable metasurfaces.

Examples include mesoscopic self-collimation and resonant cavities, wavelength-controlled plasmonic hotspots for sensing, optical tweezing and thermoplasmonic activation of VO₂, as well as guided-mode-resonance metagratings and graphene-based transparent surfaces for wavefront control.

The seminar aims to highlight the potential of dispersion engineering as a versatile tool for controlling the propagation, localization and interaction of electromagnetic fields across different physical platforms and frequency ranges.
