Jacqueline Bloch is an internationally recognized specialist in light-matter interaction. With her team, she explores the physics of polaritons, quantum fluids of light manipulated in semiconductor microcavities, to probe phenomena as varied as superfluidity, topology, and non-equilibrium phase transitions.
Having joined the CNRS in 1994, she received the Jean Ricard Prize from the French Physical Society (2015), the CNRS Silver Medal (2017), and the Ampère Prize from the Académie des sciences (2019), an institution of which she has been a member since 2020. Created in 1954, the Gold Medal is the highest French scientific distinction.
Awarded to a single individual each year, across all fields, it recognizes an entire career that has made an exceptional contribution to the standing of French research.
