Sylvia Matzen, a C2N research professor and CNRS bronze medallist, contributed to the book Etonnante Physique, published by Editions CNRS. Her subject is photostriction, a phenomenon that consists of deforming a material by illuminating it. This opens the way to optical control of devices that is remote, ultra-fast and consumes less energy than conventional electrical control.
Ferroelectric materials have not finished surprising us.
