To try and understand this phenomenon, two C2N researchers, Jacqueline Bloch and Sylvain Ravets, have built artificial black holes: microscopic structures called micro-cavities that, under certain conditions, emit "polaritons" with astonishing properties. These quantum particles form a fluid, which is essential for observing the famous Hawking effect*.
