The Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (C2N) has decided to suspend its activity on the social network X. This decision follows a thorough reflection conducted over several months on the evolution of this platform and its impact on the quality of public discourse, in alignment with our core values.
For years, our presence on X has allowed us to enhance C2N's visibility, share and promote our research and projects, celebrate our achievements, and foster enriching dialogue with our communities: scientists, institutions, students, peers, and partners. These exchanges have highlighted C2N's pivotal role in nanoscience and nanotechnology, driven by the expertise of our teams and our state-of-the-art infrastructure.
However, recent changes to the platform have deeply impacted the quality of dialogue. We observe a decline in public debate, a proliferation of harmful content, and the spread of misinformation, exacerbated by significantly reduced moderation. These trends are incompatible with our commitment to knowledge dissemination, scientific rigor, respect, and openness.
Therefore, in keeping with the integrity of the scientific approach, C2N believes that the conditions for reliable and ethical information are no longer met on X. We will now explore new digital spaces where these values can be upheld and nurtured.
