In November 2025, the ESA JUICE mission pointed five of its scientific instruments at the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS, shedding new light on this rare visitor from another stellar system.
The French instrument detected infrared emissions from water vapor and CO₂, as well as light scattering by the coma in the visible/near-infrared range of comet 3I/ATLAS.
France contributes to the mission through the involvement of several French laboratories, including C2N, alongside IAS, IPAG, IPGP, IRAP, LAB, LATMOS, LIRA, LPC2E, LPG, and LPP, which all participated in the development of the instruments onboard the spacecraft.
