Joo-Von Kim, CNRS Research Director at C2N, has been named a 2027–2028 Distinguished Lecturer by a committee of the IEEE Magnetics Society. A theoretical and computational physicist, Joo-Von Kim specializes in nanomagnetism and spintronics. At C2N, his work focuses on the nonlinear and stochastic dynamics of magnetization, with applications in information processing and unconventional computing.
His lecture is titled “Floquet Magnonics: A Time Odyssey.” Magnonics deals with the generation, propagation, and detection of spin waves in magnetic materials for information processing purposes. These waves are well suited to microwave technologies and to integration into semiconductor devices. In this talk, Joo-Von Kim explores how magnetic textures, such as vortices, can enable strong Floquet coupling to generate out-of-equilibrium magnonic states, within the framework of “Floquet engineering,” that is, the periodic time modulation of a material’s properties. He is a co-author of recent work on the subject, published in 2026 in Science and Physical Review Letters.
Lecturers are selected based on their international reputation for excellence in their field, their speaking skills, and the interest their topic generates within the magnetism community.
